Founded in 1919, Zonta takes its name from the Lakota Sioux word meaning “honest and trustworthy.” Today Zonta International has 33,000 members and 1,200 clubs in 68 countries. Zontians around the world volunteer their time, talents, financial support and energy to local and international service projects that assist women with legal, political, health, educational, economic and social improvements in their lives.
While women in many parts of the world have made significant strides in their status, there are still many areas of our globe where women still face poverty, illiteracy and discrimination. Zonta’s international service fund addresses these issues by selecting three projects in different critical areas of the world, designed to target the urgent economic, social and educational needs of women.
If you’re looking for a service organization that’s focused on the needs of women you need look no farther. Zontians in Leelanau County use a mix of traditional and non-traditional skills to make things better for their neighbors and friends as well as for women around the world.
When you join Zonta many people benefit.
